*Advanced* Button Me Up! A Buttonmaking for Riso Workshop

  • Outlet PDX 2500 NE Sandy Blvd Ste E Portland OR 97232 USA (map)

About the Workshop

Learn how to make more out of your riso prints and literally wear your new button-making skills on your sleeve after taking this workshop!

Join us for this hands-on workshop where you'll be introduced to the colorful world of button-making! You’ll learn how to use Outlet’s button-making machines and explore how to transform simple prints into delightful, wearable accessories. (And more, if you’re feeling especially crafty!) We’ll use our riso printers to create a variety of buttons in different sizes from start to finish, adding your own personal flair to each one. From political statements to punchlines, the possibilities are endless.

When you’ve made all the buttons you can handle, you’ll be able to swap and share your creations with fellow attendees. Literally wear your newfound button-making skills on your sleeve and walk away with a unique assortment of buttons that you can give away, pin to your favorite bag or jacket, or sell if you're feeling entrepreneurial. Make more out of your riso prints! Wear your opinion, bring your outfit together, start a grassroots movement, or just put out good vibes with your buttons after taking this workshop.

Covid Safety Protocols

We're still requiring masks during classes and events to keep our most vulnerable community members safe. There will be no more than 8 attendees total, plus the instructor(s). We'll be taking precautions by opening our space (weather permitting), sanitizing surfaces, and maintaining as much distance as we can.

About the Instructor

Bailey Collins is an illustrator and designer in Portland. They are a regular fixture at Outlet as a studio assistant and are always experimenting with riso as a medium and pushing the boundaries of what can be done with print. If you’ve printed with them during open hours you’ll know that they are creative, clever, and will almost always convince you to make a button out of your print or try a wild paper color you’d never think to try. They also have an experimental calendar subscription where they play with everything a calendar can be, all printed on riso.

Can't wait to see you in person!
